Best realistic comedies (2010-2013)

Best realistic comedies (2010-2013)

written by Souranath Banerjee.

Overdose of sex and violence. Mega celebrities and towering super-heros, computer graphics and 3D glasses. It all feels so artificial and commercial at times.

Sometimes all you want is a good sensible film with believable characters and a realistic story line, easy going with a comic touch in it – but nowadays such films are hard to find.

Well, you don’t have to look any further.

Here’s a list of the best realistic comedies (2010-2013) which are simple yet entertaining, emotional yet enjoyable.

And here we go.

10. Submarine (2010)

submarine

Although treated as a comedy, the film deals with the story of a young boy and his problems of growing up – the leap from childhood to adulthood.

A beautiful film, superb music and great acting.

It is fresh and funny – a perfect British comedy. If you haven’t seen this you are missing out – believe me.

9. Enough Said (2013)

Enough Said

The characters in this film are so real, so believable that you will instantly feel a connection.

It’s a story of two matured people (age wise at-least) who falls in love and try their best to BE in love.

Certain situations and dialogues are hilarious, awesome performances, and beautifully written.

A must see for all comic lovers.

8. Stuck in Love (2012)

Stuck In Love

True love, casual love, broken love, tying to earn your love back – this film is about experimenting all kinds of love.

A dry comedy persists as the story of a particular family is revealed, their laughs, their crisis and their hopes – you quickly get involved.

Writers and their love for books is also a love angle played in the film – i just loved it.

7. Daydream Nation (2010)

Daydream Nation

It’s not only a steamy story of a teacher-student relationship but it has also the suspense of a serial killer!

A new girl in a small town, alone and looking for love – the perfect combination of danger.

Sexy, clever and sometimes tense – the film is unique in it’s subject and brilliantly performed by the actors. Watch it.

6. Broken (2012)

Broken

The lose of innocence is something irrecoverable once ‘broken’ and that’s exactly what we are dealing with in this film.

It’s all about a young girl, her family and her neighborhood – a great script and highly engaging drama throughout.

Often left with a slight touch of humor, the film gets more intense than you imagine.

5. The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)

the perks of being a wallflower

A freshman in college gets to bond with a few seniors, they hang out, they enjoy their young lives – but it’s not as simple a plot as it seems.

Though pleasantly funny – the film deals with some very serious and dark topics like drug, alcohol and sexuality.

This is so rare but it’s true in this case – this film is as good as the book. May be even better. Especially Emma Watson fans – highly recommended.

4. Robot & Frank (2012)

robot and frank

I am not a fan of SiFi films and so was a bit tentative about watching this film but now i am glad i did.

A futuristic setup where you can order a robot for your household works. But a robot can never become a real friend – or can it?

One of the best man-machine relationships, truly emotional and humorous at times. I am sure you will love it.

3. The Way Way Back (2013)

the way way back

In starting new relations it’s often not easy to hit the right note, but again making friends is not that difficult after all.

A brilliant story of a kid, his equation with his mother, his new step dad and the friendly manager of a water park. His own love story gets a hit as well.

A smooth, crisp and highly entertaining film, actually this kind of emotions are rare to find in today’s films – a must watch for you all.

2. The Intouchables (2011)

the intouchables

Great acting and direction, a film about friendship and love. And a lot of cheeky humor.

A french film (make sure your subtitles are there unless you are from France); it’s about a young man from a difficult background who takes up a job to look after a rich paralytic guy – and of course it’s about their eventual friendship.

Outstanding in every way.

1. The Kings of Summer (2013)

the kings of summer

And now my most favorite one – probably because of the involvement of nature in this film.

Or may be it’s because of the amazing script, or may be the acting, the cinematography, the direction – i can go on and on.

A group of teenagers plan to build a house in the forest – their idea of independence. Their friendship is tested as the days go by.

and

(The ‘+1’ film is not necessarily the best but certainly the most crazy one. A must watch).

+1. Safety Not Guaranteed (2012)

safety not guaranteedA crazy ad in the newspaper seeking for a companion for time travel!

A magazine writer and two interns get in touch with the owner of this ad to get a juicy story, but things change as they come to know the guy in real.

Certain absurdities seem possible and traveling in time takes a whole different meaning. This is a film unique in it’s own way.
