Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom (2018)

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom

My Ratings: 1.5/5

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom review: Gone are those days when heart wrenching stories were told through the medium of cinema and timeless classics told the Jurassic-World-Fallen-Kingdompoignant tales of love, heartbreak and injustice.

Cinema was once the medium of common man through which he expressed his frustrations against injustice, his lament for his long lost love and his youthful exuberance of his triumphs. But while sitting through the tiring 2 hours of the latest installment of Jurassic Park, one cant help but wonder about the futility of the rigmarole that is “sequels”.

A movie riddled with scientific inaccuracies and mindless special effects, has the two main characters reprising their roles of the previous installment and gives a below par performance Jurassic-World-Fallen-Kingdomwhich makes the film a painful watch.

It is high time Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard give a long review of their resume and decide whether the characters they have done till now do justice to their abundant talent. With absolutely nothing new to offer the film huffs and puffs through its entirety with a wafer-thin storyline and below par special effects.

An almost non-existent storyline which borrows heavily from the first two installments, the director J.A. Bayona even dares to touch the controversial topic of human cloning in a desperate effort to hold the attention of the audience – but fails spectacularly!!!

The timeless classic that is Jurassic Park (1993) has stood the test of
time and it was the touch of the finest auteurs of world cinema that Jurassic-World-Fallen-Kingdommade this movie what it is today – Steven Spielberg.

Its unique storyline, spell binding special effects and amazing background score struck the right chord with the audience and yet it is the same traits that become the new installment’s undoing.

It’s with a heavy heart that I am writing the obituary of a grand cinema franchise which not only did redefine the genre but also became a benchmark to which future sci-fi flicks would be weighed, measured and judged!!

If only men knew when to walk away …  if only …

Jurassic World (2015)

Jurassic World review.

written by Souranath Banerjee.

My ratings: 3.8/5.

“We’re talking about an animal here.” – “A highly intelligent animal.”

“She is not eating them, she’s killing for sport.”

“Something is wrong. They’re communicating.”

Well, these are some of the dialogues in the film (even revealed in the film trailer if you remember) just to give you the basic idea of what a bad-ass dinosaur we are dealing with this time.

jurassic-world-poster4She is called the Indominus Rex (yes it’s a ‘she’). Primarily a mix breed of T-Rex and Velociraptor; which also has a bit of cuttle-fish DNA (so she can camouflage), and some amphibian DNA as well (capable of changing body temperature at will). And she also happens to be a killing machine!

Oh ya! Jurassic World the fourth franchise of the famous dino-saga is back and this time it’s bigger, though i won’t say it’s better but definitely ‘with more teeth’.

Steven Spielberg came out with the epic Jurassic Park way back in 1993 and it was a sensational experience (the best dinosaur film till date). And then followed The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) and Jurassic Park III (2001).

jurassic-world-poster5And now after a gap of almost fifteen years Colin Trevorrow brings us the dinosaur theme park – the ‘Lost World’ where researchers have managed to create genetically evolved creatures from the past who are more intelligent, more dangerous and supposed to be more entertaining.

These prehistoric hybrid monsters are the star attractions of the park and people buy tickets to watch them feed and they can even take a ride with their favorite dinosaurs in a special car called The Gyrosphere.

John Hammond’s dream for a “Jurassic Park” finally becomes a reality in this film. (RIP Richard Attenborough)

jurassic-world-poster3But then (though predictable enough) the most evil creation of the park (the Indominus Rex) escapes from her captivity and causes extreme havoc that lasts for a good entertaining 124 mins.

The star cast is good and to-the-point – Chris Pratt the raptor-tamer, Bryce Dallas Howard the non-emotional business woman turned emotional savior, Vincent D’Onofrio the bad guy, Nick Robinson and Ty Simpkins the adventurous brothers to be rescued.

Grand music by Michael Giacchino and superb visuals shot by John Schwartzman.

jurassic-world-poster1Overall a racy story-line, exciting chase sequences, dinosaurs killing humans, dinosaurs killing dinosaurs and superb VFX.

But when compared to the original Jurassic Park (since this one claims to be a direct sequel to it) Jurassic World falls short as it tries to show the emotional bonding of the main characters who are destined for not-to-be-eaten till the end credit rolls.

Watch Jurassic World in the biggest screen possible, keep your 3D glasses handy and enjoy the feeding frenzy of your favorite dinosaurs.

And for Irrfan Khan, helicopters may not be the ideal transport option.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

My Ratings: 4/5

Guardians of the Galaxy is the ultimate surprise package for superhero movie lovers!

Director James Gunn has successfully created a very entertaining galaxy where you can completely loose yourself once your 3D glasses are in position.

Peter Quills (Chris Pratt) the self-proclaimed ‘Star Lord’ is our witty protagonist who cruises in his spaceship – a charming thief by profession.

And then we have Gamora the sexy assassin (Zoe Saldana), Drax the destroyer who is hungry for revenge (Dave Bautista), Rocket the gun-crazy talking raccoon (Bradley Cooper) and Groot the humanoid tree with very limited vocabulary (Vin Diesel).

In the process of stealing the Orb that contains mysterious powers Peter Quills meets these other not-so-human characters. Eventually they make a weird but awesome team and try their best to save the galaxy from the evil/powerful Ronan (Lee Pace).

Will they able to protect our planets and be known as the Guardians of the Galaxy?

Watch the film and you will know all the answers – probably the best Sci-Fi films of our times.

Maintaining the humor throughout, Guardians of the Galaxy boasts some of the most amazing space-action sequences. A perfect balance of VFX thrills and emotional story-telling.

Actors like Benicio Del Toro, John C. Reilly and Djimon Hounsou play short but entertaining roles in the film.

Guardians of the Galaxy has a certain uniqueness that sets it apart from the other Marvel comics-adapted films but then again, it also has some of the distinctive features to excite the Marvel fan following.

A film that should be watched only in 3D to get the best look at our galaxy and it’s guardians.

The name Alejandro González Iñárritu as a director should be enough to stir up curiosity for a film.

And with a star cast of Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, Zach Galifianakis, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts this film is probably the most awaited release this year.

Horribel bosses 2

Remember the first time you met the most horrible bosses and what fun you had!

The trailer is hilarious and hopefully the director Sean Anders has done a great job. I am sure it will be an enjoyable laugh riot.

Film trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ym3LB0lOJ0o

gone girl

After ‘The Social Network‘ and ‘The girl with the dragon tattoo‘ my favorite director David Fincher‘s next – a suspense thriller about a girl who’s gone missing.

Ben Affleck, the husband who is also a suspect tries his best to prove his innocence but no body knows what really happened.

Unless of course you watch the film – so wait till it’s released.

Film trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnalZzJ-XS4

The Interview

A deadly plan to assassinate North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un but unfortunately the least qualified men are chosen by the CIA for the mission.

Who else but Seth Rogen and James Franco. The more they try to be serious the more they look funny.

The plot seems to be hilarious, I am sure this film will be a perfect political satire to look forward.

8. The Judge (releasing on 10th Oct)

Film trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBvK6ni97W8

the judge

A mystery to be unsolved, a family drama to experience and a father-son relationship to be revived.

magic in the moonlight
